An Internal Fire - Marcus 2229

Welcome to Three-Peat Tuesday! An Internal Fire

Building from my recent book UNBEATABLE! Seven Pillars of Personal Excellence, each blog will contain three P’s: Pillar, Principle and Practical, all geared towards nourishing you on your personal and spiritual growth journey.

Pillar: A Heart on Fire

“We must never cover the flame in our heart to comfort the ice in another’s”-Eric Gilmour, author

Principle: Fired Up!

Passion. Desire. Obsession. We recognize it even if we don’t know how to label it.

I’m talking about that inner fire that brings out the best in you. Chances are, we were all born with it but may have either misused it, ignored or just never acknowledged its presence. Sometimes, too, the sheer coldness of another person’s heart, their pessimism, and negative energy have doused your zeal. Be alert.

It seems to me that there are different things that get us “fired up!” as they say. You get energized and feel a sense of purpose by merely thinking about this activity. For some of you, serving the homeless gives you a huge lift. Others are bolstered by times outdoors when you feel connected to a Divine Presence that words cannot explain. Different ones of us love pouring ourselves into others, teaching, training, and mentoring them.

Consider the Wisdom Teacher’s words in Ecclesiastes: “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men, yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.”

I love that passage in Holy Scripture. It says that God has placed eternity in the hearts of men. Yet, I believe we keep filling that holy space in our hearts with all the wrong things: greed, ego, selfish ambition, lust for recognition, sensual pleasure, and other fleeting pursuits. Is it possible that the fire within us should be channeled wholly and solely towards things unseen and eternal?

Practical:  Eternally on Fire

Initiate a new or restore a neglected spiritual practice. Scripture meditation may be a good place to start if you’re stuck.  Let it rekindle that fire within you that wants to live beyond the here and now.

The eternity in the hearts of men is represented by the legacy we leave after we’re long gone. I muse on this daily hopeful that I don’t disappoint my God regarding what He expects of me, since he has given so much to me.

This is a wonderful desire of the heart Karen. Thank you.

Yes. I have to temper my zeal daily and check to see if its genuine or just an emotion in the moment as I can get derailed so quickly. Having the scripture at the centre will help as I will now go back to it for reconnection, refocus and repositioning. Thanks

That is a great tool, Michelle. Using the wisdom of Scripture as an anchor to keep purifying your motives is commendable. Thank you.
