Due Diligence - Marcus 2229

Welcome to Three-Peat Tuesday!

Building from my recent book UNBEATABLE! Seven Pillars of Personal Excellence, each blog will contain three P’s: Pillar, Principle and Practical, all geared towards nourishing you on your personal and spiritual growth journey.

Pillar

“Diligence is the golden key of all worthy achievements”-Sheldon D. Newton, author and preacher

Principle

I’ve never viewed myself as a sluggard. I still don’t. But another reliable source has recently told me to have a rethink. You see, within recent weeks, I have focused my personal spiritual growth journey on the quality of diligence.

A dictionary study of the word “diligence” has led me to some amazing synonyms. Words like meticulous, assiduous, ultra-careful, punctilious, attentive, detailed and conscientious have now been placed front and centre in my face.

As I reflected on some of my spiritual, financial and health goals, I noticed that I had merely been hopeful and well-intentioned. Yet, the details were missing. Exactly how many vitamins and proteins did I wish to ingest each day? How many calories and carbohydrates are acceptable in my diet at my age? What sum of money did I want to save by the end of each quarter of every year? Those finer points were absent. The diligence just was not there.

It didn’t help my ego to read a passage like the following either:

A sluggard’s appetite is never filled, but the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied” (Proverbs 13:4)

I needed to hear this, although its message was a dagger to my heart. I had become too comfortable simply wishing for the best. It was important to recognize that having a desire or appetite for something without the diligence made me a spiritual sluggard. After sober reflection, trust me, some new plans and actions are kicking in! With divine guidance, my prayer is that these changes will be long-lasting.

Practical

Find the one area of your life right now where you need to become more attentive. Write down your growth plan and share it with an accountability partner.
