Give Thanks - Twice - Marcis 2229

The content of my weekly blogs is drawn primarily from ancient Hebrew wisdom literature, while the 2020 format was inspired by James Clear’s “3-2-1” Thursdays. Building from my recent book UNBEATABLE! Seven Pillars of Personal Excellence, each week you will receive One Pillar/Proverb, One Principle and One Practical.

One Pillar

“He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him-and he was a Samaritan”-Luke, the Physician

One Principle

The story is told in Luke’s Gospel of the ten lepers who were cleansed, yet only one returned to give thanks. I can be that way at times, forgetting to show gratitude. Today is a bit easier to remember, though, as I have the joy of a double birthday. May 1st is quite special because it was the day that I was baptized into Christ on my 21st birthday back at Brandon’s Beach, Barbados in 1995.  Yes, today I turn both 46 and 25!

Space does not permit me to list everyone who has made my life’s journey memorable and meaningful, so I’ll simply zero in on my most important relationship⸻my walk with the Triune God, in whom the mystery and majesty of community are flawlessly portrayed.

God has been faithful, gracious, reliable, trustworthy, merciful, amazing and sovereign in my life. I am nothing without him. I have chosen to follow his Son, Jesus, because in Christ we find the perfect model of grace and truth, power and poise, holiness and hospitality, humility and conviction. I want to be like him. I desire to keep in step with the Spirit because doing so gives me a chance to grow in my love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Boy, do I need these in ever increasing portions!

One Practical

Give thanks. Do it today.

There really is so much to thank God for including the time we get to spend with our loved ones. When we go through tough times God is there helping us to make it through and giving us people to help make the journey more bearable. Tyrone, I thank God for you and your family. My husband and I have benefited from your spiritual wisdom and we are grateful for that. May God continue to bless you as you celebrate your birthdays.

Your gracious words are truly appreciated Dave. Any positive impact that I have been privileged to have on people’s lives has been the direct result of being in a community. Someone has spelled T.E.A.M to mean: Together Everyone Achieves More. Best wishes.

Tyrone, you are a bright spark, not only in your home church here in Trinidad, but across the entire Caribbean. Your impact probably reaches beyond our region, who knows? One thing we do know however, is that it is a matter of time before your passion for the Lord becomes evident to many around the globe.
Those of us who interact with you on a regular basis here in Trinidad know that you make every effort to live what you teach and so it is a privilege to be associated with you. May God continue to use you to spread His word here in the Island and beyond.
    Happy Happy Birthdays.
    Blessings!

Thank you so very much Ronke. I am honoured to serve God and others with so many of you, whose presence and partnership make me better, whether in academia, spirituality maturity, personal growth or sports law. I need you all to survive.
