Welcome to Three-Peat Tuesday!
Building from my recent book UNBEATABLE! Seven Pillars of Personal Excellence, each blog will contain three P’s: Pillar, Principle and Practical, all geared towards nourishing you on your personal and spiritual growth journey.
“Starting a quarrel is like breaching a dam; so drop the matter before a dispute breaks out.”-The Proverbs of Solomon
Have you noticed how many fights are happening all over the globe? There’s tension everywhere. Citizens are protesting. Politicians are posturing. Employees are complaining. And in many of these disputes, people are simply not budging.
The real truth, though, is that there’s a lot to be unhappy about. That’s not surprising. Our world is broken. Yet, the brokenness starts with each of us. We think we’re objective and balanced, but often we’re partial and biased. Like it or not, we make crucial decisions based on emotion rather than ration or reason. Our rights are dear to us, yet sadly, sometimes we ignore the plight of others in even greater need.
Is there injustice in the world? Yes. Must we speak out for what is right and fair? Without a doubt. Too many have been hurt and taken advantage of and have no idea what it means to live in freedom and with access to equality.
However, there are some matters that we need to drop before the quarrel starts. It will take wisdom to know which issues need advocacy and which ones need silence. I don’t have all the answers. What is clear to me, though, is that our harmony as a human race and the practice of peaceful, dignified co-existence is consistently under serious threat. Future generations need hope and they’re depending on us.
Let us be advocates for right living. Still, let us also use those same mouths for more intense, passionate and faithful prayer before the throne of the One who judges justly. Can we please stop all this quarreling?
Choose your battles.
